He has published over 40 peer reviewed journal and conference papers, and served as program chairs, committee members in various IEEE conferences. He holds CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) and is a senior member of both IEEE and ACM. Dr. Chen also served the President the Chinese Association of Science and Technology, one of the largest Chinese organizations in the US. Social bots are computer programs that are able to interact with other actors in computer-mediated communications. They are able to exhibit certain human like behaviors and to perform certain tasks. With more and more social bots in an Internet social network, especially those smart social bots equipped with deep knowledge and learning capability, social science, mass media communication, computer science and some other decision-making disciplines are facing great challenges. Social discourse is no longer centered on finding truth and understanding each other but on exploiting human weakness to influence outcomes. This talk is to provide insights into computer-mediated communications and social structures in the appearance of social bots and to offer different perspectives of possible solutions to cope with. The final part of this talk is devoted to exploiting blockchain technology to social networks.
